# Vega-Lite

Vega-Lite is a higher-level, more concise grammar for creating visualizations.

Where Vega asks you to specify everything (scales, axes, marks, layout, legend placement…), Vega-Lite lets you describe a chart in terms of encodings - mappings from data fields to visual channels - and fills in sensible defaults for the rest.
