# Vega

Vega is a _declarative visualization system_ \- essentially a “grammar” for describing charts and interactive diagrams.

Instead of writing imperative drawing code, you write a structured JSON spec like the ones in your templates (word cloud, packed bubbles, dot plots, etc.).
